Chicago Arrival

After the most turbulent plane ride of my life, I am in Chicago. Caught the CTA Red Line to Roosevelt, then schlepped up to Michigan and down to the hotel. Yep, I'm at the Hilton. Met a nice guy from Richmond, VA on the train--I forgot his name, but he runs an independent journal and is an adjunct at VCU. I'll see him tomorrow and get the props straightened out. If it weren't for his iPhone and Google maps, we would have walked the wrong way. The poor guy was huffing along with a huge suitcase full of books--says it cost him $175 in baggage fees. Ouch. He shoulda gone FedEx.

The weather here in Chicago is rainy and windy. I stood around in the lobby for a bit to see if I saw anybody I knew, but as it is the first night and I got here super early (around 2 pm), not a lot of folks were trickling in.

The hotel is charging an arm and leg for internet access, so my posts will not be as frequent as I hope. I'm using a college laptop, and if I can find a Starbucks with free wireless nearby, then I''ll be golden.

Further updates as events warrant. If you are at AWP, send me an email and I'll zip you back my cell or room number so we can meet up and grab a beer or something.
